CONCEPT
敷地は西新宿、新宿中央公園に面した築40年のホテル。稼働率は高く、海外からの観光客も多く訪れるものの、宿泊目的のみに点として来訪されるため都市との繋がりが築かれておらず、敷地の持つ魅力を引き出せていないように感じた。そこで、使用されていないホテルの屋上部分や外部空間を積極的に緑化し利用すること、またロビーやエントランスエリアを誰でも利用できる公園のようなコモンスペースとして街に開放することで、公園と都市とホテルが少しずつ混ざり合うことを考えた。ホテルが都市の中での居場所をつくることで、街全体に賑わいが広がることを期待している。
The site is a 40 year old hotel facing Shinjuku Chuo Park in Nishi-Shinjuku. While the hotel has a high occupancy rate and attracts many international tourists, it has functioned only as a point of stay, without building a meaningful connection to the city. As a result, the potential of the site has not been fully realized.
The proposal envisions actively greening and utilizing the unused rooftop and exterior spaces, while transforming the lobby and entrance area into commons that anyone can access, like an extension of the park. By gradually blending the park, the city, and the hotel, the project seeks to create new places of belonging within the urban fabric and to extend vibrancy throughout the neighborhood.
