CONCEPT
革靴作りの工程は非常に細かい。本計画は革底（ソール）のみの製作工場だが、そのソール部分だけでも無限の種類の靴とサイズがあり、さらには切断・型押し・糊付け・研磨・磨き・色付けなど無数の工程が加わる。それは工場と呼ばれるより、機械化されたクラフトワークのアトリエのようだった。欧州各地から取り寄せたという数十ある大小の機械はそれだけで美しく、油によって磨きこまれたスチールの塊はヤノベケンジのアートのように、力強い存在感を発していた。 そこでできるだけ機能性と合理性を高め、工場として働きやすい環境を整えるとともに、モノや人が自由に配置され、展示されるギャラリーのような場所がつくれないかと考えた。配線や照明を全て天井から取ることで床面を開放し、ユニバーサルな配置と照明計画を実現している。
The process of making leather shoes is extraordinarily intricate. This project was for a factory dedicated solely to producing leather soles, yet even within the sole alone, there are countless types and sizes of shoes, each requiring numerous processes such as cutting, embossing, gluing, grinding, polishing, and coloring. Rather than a typical factory, the space resembled a mechanized craft atelier.
Dozens of machines, large and small, imported from across Europe were beautiful in their own right their steel bodies, polished by oil and use, radiated a powerful presence reminiscent of Kenji Yanobe’s artworks.
