場所にとらわれないソファをつくりたいと考えた。 このソファは木製のフレームと風船状のバルーンクッションで構成されており、フレームはパタパタと折りたたむことができる。また、包装すると一般的な宅急便で配送することができるように３辺の合計が160㎝に設定されている。クッションは実際浮き輪と同様なので、プールや海に浮かべることができるし、丸洗いもできる。もちろん空気を入れるまではペラペラだ。木フレームによってバルーンが接地することはないので、地面の状況で割れることはないし、割れたとしても安価で簡単に交換できる。 フレームの重さは3～4kgで簡単に肩にかけて持ち運びができる。リビングでも公園でもビーチでもプールサイドでも山林でもビルの屋上でも砂漠の真ん中でもソファを運ぶことができるため、リビングスペースがゲリラのような早さで現れてくれるだろう。 移動性の高まりをみせる現代において、今後は都市と郊外、海や山林といった境界をするすると行き来し、旅をするように生活する人が増えるだろう。そんなとき、このバルーンソファが新しい景色を見つける為の道具になってくれることを期待している。

I wanted to create a sofa that is not bound to any particular place. This sofa consists of a wooden frame and balloon like inflatable cushions. The frame can be folded compactly, and when packaged, its total dimensions are set to 160 cm so that it can be shipped by standard courier services. The cushions, similar to swimming rings, can float on a pool or the sea and can also be washed entirely. Until inflated, they remain flat and lightweight.

The wooden frame ensures that the balloons never touch the ground directly, preventing punctures. Even if one were to burst, it can be easily and cheaply replaced. Weighing only 3–4 kg, the frame can be carried over the shoulder with ease. This allows the sofa to be transported anywhere from the living room to the park, the beach, poolside, forest, rooftop, or even the middle of the desert so that a living space can appear instantly, almost guerrilla like.

In today’s increasingly mobile lifestyles, people will continue to blur the boundaries between city and suburb, sea and forest, living as though traveling. In such a world, this balloon sofa is envisioned as a tool for discovering new landscapes.
