「キャノピーbyヒルトン宮古島リゾート」に隣接する、同時開業した商業施設を設計した。目の前に広がる宮古サンセットビーチはホテルができる以前から人気の観光スポットであり、Yard miyakojimaはホテルの宿泊客以外でも楽しむことのできる商業施設なっている。 宮古島には佐良浜という漁港の集落がある。そこでは漁港に面して、丘上に重なるように建築が連なっている。建物間の隙間は細く、迷路のようにくねくねと路地が連なる。同じ方角に向いているわけではなく、平面的にも断面的に互いに少しずつずらしながら、配置されている。また、それぞれの建物には各階に庇が設けられ、互いの隙間を埋めるように、時には重なりながら、隙間を埋めるように連続している。 その建物のズレや庇は集落全体で「ひだ」をつくり、テトラポッドのように強風からうまく力を吸収している。それらは身体を守るための緩衝領域として重要な機能を果たしていたことはもちろんだが、コミュニティの形成においても重要な役割を果たしている。 本件においては庇やボリューム配置によって、それら宮古島のユニークネスである「集落的」「丘状の立体的重なり」「緩衝領域」というの３つに要素を再現しようと試みた。 宮古島では、「あちこちの家に寄りながらぶらぶらする」ことを「やーがまくーがま」というそうだ。庇下の緩衝領域を渡りながら家々を巡る集落の生活のように、Yard miyakojimaを楽しんで欲しい。

I designed a commercial facility adjacent to "Canopy by Hilton Miyakojima Resort," which opened at the same time. Miyako Sunset Beach, which stretches out before the hotel, was a popular tourist spot even before the hotel was built, and Yard Miyakojima is a commercial facility that can be enjoyed not only by hotel guests but also by others.
Miyakojima has a fishing port settlement called Sarahama. There, buildings are lined up on the hillside facing the fishing port. The gaps between the buildings are narrow, and winding alleys form a maze. They are not all facing the same direction; they are positioned slightly offset from each other both in plan and cross-section. Furthermore, each building has eaves on each floor, filling the gaps between them, sometimes overlapping, and continuing in a continuous manner.
The offset of the buildings and the eaves create a "fold" throughout the settlement, effectively absorbing the force of strong winds like tetrapods. These structures not only serve as a buffer
