社内研修や人材採用のコンサルティング・サービスを提供するオフィス「BEYOND」を代官山に設計した。「働くすべての人に自信と誇りを」という志を実現させるべく、個人の可能性を「超えて」成長していくビジョンを社名にしたとのこと。その想いを働く人にも訪れる人にも感じられる場所にしたいと考えた。 境界や障壁を乗り「超える」ことは社会人にとって最も重要な資質のひとつであり、誰もが望む能力である。しかしながら、それをスキル化することは非常に難しい。「BEYOND」のサービスとはそんな社会の苦難を自信と誇りという一生のスキルに変えてくれるコンサルティング・サービスではないだろうか。 部屋を縦断する大きなテーブルが執務室から会議室まで「超えて」連続する。また、その上部にぶら下がる照明も連続し、夜にはガラスの反射に映りながら街にまで鏡像が連続する。外に放り出されたように連なる大きなテーブルと照明は社内の繋がりはもちろん、来客や街の歩行者にまでアプローチする。そんな開かれたオフィスには代官山を歩く人たちがショップやカフェと間違えてふらりと迷い込んでくるそうだ。 また、外装には焼き加減を調整してグラデーションをつくった焼杉のファサードを採用した。何かの困難を「超える」ためにはその障壁を「均す」必要がある。山あり谷ありのデコボコとした悪路でも、滑らかなスロープや上りやすい階段に変えてしまえば、歩むことができる。焼杉という素材も、柔らかな杉材を炭化することで徐々に環境に耐えられる姿に変化していくのである。 無垢な杉板が、風雨に耐えられる強靭な焼杉になるように、きっと無垢な新人もタフなビジネスパーソンになっていく。そのグラデーションはきっと成長の過程だ。

We designed "BEYOND," an office in Daikanyama that provides consulting services for in-house training and recruitment. The company name reflects the vision of growing beyond the potential of individuals, in order to realize the ambition of "giving confidence and pride to all workers." We wanted to create a place where this feeling could be felt by both employees and visitors.
Overcoming boundaries and barriers is one of the most important qualities for working adults, and it's a skill everyone aspires to possess. However, turning it into a skill is extremely difficult. BEYOND's services are consulting services that transform such social hardships into lifelong skills like confidence and pride.
A large table runs the length of the room, going "beyond" from the offices to the conference room. The lighting hanging above is also continuous, and at night, its reflection extends out into the city. The large tables and lighting, seemingly thrown out into the open, not only foster connections within the company, but also reach out to visitors and pedestrians on the street. People walking around Daikanyama often wander into this open office, mistaking it for a shop or cafe.
The exterior façade is made of charred cedar (Yakisugi), which has been charred to a different degree to create a gradation. In order to overcome a difficulty, it is necessary to smooth out that obstacle. Even a rough, uneven road with hills and valleys can be made traversable by turning it into a smooth slope or easy-to-climb stairs. Charred cedar is also a material that gradually changes into a form that can withstand the environment by carbonizing the soft cedar wood.
Just as a plain cedar board becomes a tough charred cedar that can withstand wind and rain, so too will this innocent new employee become a tough businessperson. This gradation is surely a part of the process of growth.
